Picture collage from the 1st Christmas at our home

The dog's name is Riley (@theRileyDog) and the cactus is my interpretation of a Texas Christmas tree. My wife is from Texas and I thought it would be fun to decorate our cactus. Just wanted to share a few pics from our Holiday.

Don't forget the Myrrh this Christmas

A long time ago in a land far way in the town of Bethlehem, lying in a manger... you know the story.

Who hasn't heard the phrases, Jesus is the reason for the season, You can't have Christmas without Christ.

The sentiment is usually as cliche as the words themselves. Forget the sentimental journey, this is what Christmas means to me.

"When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh." Matthew 2:10-11

The three gifts of the Magi represented their belief in who Christ is. The Gold was a gift fit only for a king and the incense to Christ's position as the one true priest.

But what about the Myrrh?

During Christmas we too often celebrate the infant in the manger and forget that we are truly celebrating Immanuel (God with us). This miracle of God taking on human flesh so he might heal, teach, preach, and....

Die.

The story of Christmas is not about a manger, shepherds, or angels. The real story of Christmas is found in the Magis' gift of myrrh. Myrrh was most commonly used as embalming ointment and makes for a very strange gift for young child. It was meant to be used in a time of death.

Despite the glorious events that surrounded the birth of Christ it is pointless if we miss his death. The magi realized this from the very beginning. This young boy was meant to die.

The wages of sin is death. Separation from God. The only way to bridge that gap was for sinless Son of God to take our punishment for our sins so that we could be given eternal life and forgiveness.

This would be a noble story if it ended there, praise the Lord it doesn't.

God raised him from the dead. Christ is alive and he is the hope and peace for today and eternity.

As we celebrate the greatest gift of all this Christmas let us be mindful that it is much more than a story of a child in a manger.

In the hustle of today don't forget the Myrrh.

Merry Christmas

If you haven't ever given your life to Christ allow me to share a few simple verses:

Why do we need forgiveness?
  • for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Rom 3:23
God's forgiveness is available to everyone.
  • For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
It's impossible to for us to save ourselves, or get to heaven our own way
  • For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast. Eph 2:8-9
How can a sinful person accept this gift and enter heaven?
  • (Jesus said) I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
  • That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Rom 10:9
If you repent or turn from your own ways, confess that Jesus is Lord, and have faith that he was raised from the dead God promises not only heaven but an amazing life right now.
  • And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 14:3
  • I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10
If you've got questions or would just like to talk. You can email me or call me 501-859-6075. God Bless You.
